Burning home of the grim devil-children.

The furthest moon from Rami has the most distorted elliptical orbit, pulled in a wild tug of war between Rami and Knopsis. The tidal forces alone cause the inner core to boil and erupt in a multitude of sulphurous volcanoes. On top of that, it is periodically scorched by Knopsis as it spends long seasons far out of any habitable ‘goldilocks zone’ hurtling towards or away from the inferno, and only less than a day each cycle in Rami’s shadow.

Tiefling

Naturally, the only people who could survive on Mora are the infernal Tiefling, children of Knopsis the Luminous, Life-Giving Hell. Far from being agents of evil or terror, they operate a relatively benign theocracy – part cult of life, part cult of death. Members of their Church are found throughout the system, coexisting with cults that worship Rami and various Titans. As representatives of the place of torment for those judged to have lived lives of vice, many reach out to the Church for absolution in their final days. However, such pleas are misplaced, for Rami will not welcome into itself the souls of sinners, and the moons cannot be allowed to become polluted with souls with nowhere to go. Therefore, it is often the job of Tiefling Priests to exorcise and reap recalcitrant ghosts, and drag them kicking and screaming back to Mora to be tossed into Knopsis during the next pass.

Holidays and observances

The Tiefling observe a strict calendar of holy days, honouring Saints and High Judge Cardinals past, praying for their dead’s swift reincarnation from the burning fires of Hell above. The two most sacred days are Refugia and Apology. Refugia day is analogous to Thanksgiving, and is the only day that Tiefling honour Rami, and the role they played in giving them a home, relinquishing their souls from Purgatory. During Refugia, Tiefling make offerings to Rami, usually in the form of charity to the poor of other nations, in recognition of the fact that they are Rami’s people. Apology is a day to repent for sins and the maintenance of the soul, for while other souls must only remain mostly virtuous over a single lifetime to be granted access to heaven, the Tiefling have infinite lifetimes to accumulate the sins that would damn them to fiery oblivion. During Apology, Tiefling fast and humble themselves before those they have wronged, no matter how senior or old and beg for forgiveness – but only after they have demonstrated proper restitution for their wrongs. Following Apology, a feast is held and the fast is broken communally.
