Floating in the stellar expanse ignorant mortals call The Material Plane (as if there were only one), is a damp rock called Scindra with all of the perfect conditions for life. Oceans and continents bathed in the warmth of a burning orb of hydrogen give rise to a diversity of biomes from the polar frosty wastes, temperate coastlines, humid jungles, and scorching deserts.
However, the skies above constitute the most vast, unreachable and inhospitable ecosystem. The Astral Sea is not empty, for in the darkness between constellations lurk terrors beyond comprehension. The Gith warned us what hungry mouths licked the stellar winds, hoping to catch the residual signature of our psychic scent. We did not listen. We did not prepare. And in the sundering they found us weak and desperate - our panicked minds malleable to their vile manipulations.
Stars fell from the sky, igniting the atmosphere and rending terrible scars on the surface of Scindra. The light emanating from the crystals within the strange geodes drove mortals to madness. And the passengers of those foul chariots became the new gods of the twisted and insane populace that the inhabitants Scindra had become.
But the void above is not only the domain of monsters. Long have the people of Scindra delighted at watching pods of Starwhals visit their corner of the cosmos, and they are an omen of good luck for those that manage to catch their arrival. When empowered a Starwhal’s horn enables it to puncture the fabric of space-time, creating portals that facilitate movement between their feeding grounds. Sighting of Starwhals were vanishingly scarce during the sundering, but have since returned in greater numbers.
Atop, around, and within Mount Oremun is the Queendom of Ulspen, and its last city Suchang. It was Kalashtar Queen Jingfei VII, herself an accomplished necromancer, and her allies the sorcerer Vellothier and druid Zashar who created the Three Miracles of Hope:
As a result of being the only place on Scindra to have survived the sundering it is now the home to many of the people found throughout all the planes.
